The Complete Electronics Health Check
Professional Guitar Electronics Servicing, Potentiometer Flushing & Hum Diagnosis
Nothing kills musical inspiration faster than a volume pot that crackles through your amplifier, an output jack that cuts out mid-song, or a mystery ground buzz that won't go away.
You don't need an expensive rewire—90% of guitar electrical faults are straightforward issues caused by oxidation, loose hardware, or fatigued solder joints. At our private Dundee workbench, David Aitken provides an all-inclusive £30 electronics health check with complimentary doorstep pickup and return across Dundee.

The 4-Stage Electronics Health Check Protocol
A comprehensive technical overhaul of your instrument's control cavity, eliminating crackle and restoring silent, reliable signal transfer:
DeoxIT Contact Flush & Lubrication
Zero abrasive solvent damage. We use precision audio-grade DeoxIT electrical contact cleaner and fader lubricant, dissolving oxidation and restoring silent, silky potentiometer rotation without harming conductive carbon tracks.
Mechanical Jack-Socket Tension & Lock-Down
A spinning jack socket twists and shears internal wiring until your guitar goes silent. We tension the mechanical contact leaf, clean corrosion from the sleeve, and lock the socket down with internal star-lock washers so it is mechanically pinned and cannot rotate.
Solder Joint Integrity Inspection & Reflow
Factory solder joints fracture from road vibrations and temperature swings. We inspect every connection under bench magnification and reflow dry, cold, or suspect joints with premium audio-grade solder.
Digital Multimeter Ground & Continuity Audit
We test the entire ground path from bridge to output jack using a precision digital multimeter, isolating mystery buzzes, eliminating ground loops, and ensuring optimal RF interference rejection.

Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Why are my volume and tone pots making a scratchy, crackling sound?
Over time, airborne dust, sweat, and conductive carbon residue accumulate inside the potentiometer casing. Turning the knob drags the wiper across this debris, interrupting electrical contact and creating a loud scratchy crackle through your amplifier. A professional electrical contact flush dissolves and washes out this residue without damaging carbon tracks.
Why does my guitar cut out when I wiggle the cable lead?
In 90% of cases, the 1/4-inch output jack socket has either loosened—causing it to spin inside the cavity and snap a ground wire—or the mechanical leaf spring has lost its tension and no longer pinches the tip of your guitar lead firmly. We clean, re-tension, and secure the socket with internal star-lock washers.
Can you fix an annoying buzzing or hum that stops when I touch the bridge?
Yes. If hum disappears when your hands touch the strings or bridge, your guitar's main string-ground wire is functioning, but the control cavity shielding or jack ground path is compromised. We use digital multimeters to trace continuity and eliminate ground loops.
How much does it cost if I book this alongside a setup?
If booked as a standalone service, it is £30 all-inclusive with free Dundee doorstep collection. If booked as an add-on alongside our £35 Restring or £95 Complete Setup, it is discounted to just £15.
